another pet peeve you didn't know you had
those of you that know me well (or know me at all) are probably familiar with the fact that i am morally opposed to the idea that casual dress and "athletic wear" are interchangeable. if you want to mix a hoody with your jeans on a saturday afternoon, fine. if you're playing couch potato or maid for the day, and you feel the need to wear an entire athletic ensemble, whatever. but, if you're going to a store, a restaurant, wherever, and you think it's appropriate for all of your clothing to be constructed from fleece and elastic, then we might have a problem.
this, however, is not to say that there is not an appropriate time and place to rock your favorite athletic attire outside of the home. athletic wear, after all, is designed to be worn during sporting events, and more commonly, at the gym.
this brings me to the recognition of my newest pet peeve: tools at the gym who are simply too cool for school. in the one place where it's actually acceptable (and mandated in the membership contract) to wear only appropriate athletic attire and footwear while on the gym floor, why would anyone feel the need to push the envelope?
i'll give a free pass to the trainers, who sometimes choose to mix cargo khakis and shorts with their trainer-tees. i'd be bored if i had to wear mesh and fleece to work everyday too. but i will not overlook someone who chooses to lift free weights and use cardio machines in flimsy flip-flops that they shouldn't be wearing anywhere besides the shower. nor will i let slide the "hipster-jocks" that do the same in slacks cut off below the knees and converse shoes without socks. you are not adam brody, and i'd bet even he works out in tennis shoes.

That's scary. I would never wear flip flops to lift weights- what if you dropped them on your feet (the weights, obviously, not the flip flops)?
