gap in the holiday season
is it just me, or is there not a gap-ing hole in the holiday commercial blitz? where the f are the gap holiday commercials?
there are givens every year during the holiday season: starbucks cups are red and plentiful. department stores go on sale permanently during the month of december. and the gap invades our living rooms with an infectious christmas-themed commercial that is impossible to escape...except not this year.
i've been by several of their stores. i've seen the window campaign: "how to give the perfect gift," which is all fine and dandy. but, call me crazy, i'm a little saddened by the lack of on-air presence this year. (there; i said it!)
target, kohls, and walmart are dominating for song-and-choreographed campaigns, (gap's usual expertise). macy's doesn't go five minutes without reminding us there is a giant one-day sale...everyday. and, coke wins the grand prize for the indisputably cute penguin/polar bear spot.
yes, i know i'm a little ocd about the holiday season (as much as i am about everything else) but someone needs to speak out! gap is a scrooge, and no one is getting gifts from there this year! (as if that would happen anyway ;-)

Most people, when they write about the commericalization of Christmas, are complaining that Christmas has become too much about the shopping and not enough about the 'spirit'. When Mark complains about the commercialization of Christmas, he means the Gap commercial is missing from the prime time spot.
