fun with cultural anthropology
so, i was watching regis & kelly one day last week, and the daily trivia question went something like this:
"finola hughes was on our show yesterday and mentioned that she was in the original london cast of which broadway show?"
now, admittedly, i did not know the answer as i hadn't watched the interview. but, as the 20 seconds were clicking away, and Mrs. OklaTenneTucky hemmed and hawed over the answer, kelly and her regis-substitute prompted her with clues such as:
"very popular show"
"was on broadway forever. extremely long run"
"at least take a guess! any show! 5 seconds!"
i know what you're thinking (or what you should be thinking)...phantom of the opera...les miserables...something along those lines. right?
wrong. her guess: "the color purple"
the color purple? yes, that's right, the color fucking purple as in the show that opened in new york about 6 months ago with an entirely african american cast. apparently words like "london," "long running," and "very popular," didn't quite register with her.
so, i guess i should give (even more) props to oprah for exposing yet another faction of culturally devoid america to the world of theatre, but all in all, this just makes me sad, and clearly our contestant did not deserve her all-expense paid vacation to st. lucia (which she likely would be unable to point out on a map anyway).
p.s. the correct answer was cats

happened to see this myself.
pretty baffling.
but when it comes to changing three poopy diapers at once or knowing how to decipher between various fiber-knits on the QVC network, I'm betting the dumb bitch has you beat by a mile.
the color purple.
just so embarassing.
but i loved how queer-mo co-host sam champion's head almost spinned off when she said it.
if they had been in a gay bar and a camera hadn't been shoved up his ass, he SO would've thrown a drink at her...
You're not just now figuring out that the majority of people in the world are not nearly as ________ (insert positive adjective here) as you and your friends are, are you?
