my hands are small i know

it's been just over a year now since hurricane katrina devastated new orleans and the gulf coast and all of our hearts and minds were focused intently on that place in time. in the days following, i wrote several blog entries in reaction to the events in which i reflected on the reality of the devastation, ranted about celebrity-fueled relief efforts, and implored "everyone" not to forget as the headlines faded, because there was still too much work to be done.

well.

the headlines did fade, and we did "forget"...those not directly affected. it's not surprising; that's just how life works. it's a little disturbing, though, that we lose sight of that moment so easily--that moment when we overslept, or someone didn't hold the elevator for us, and suddenly our own trivial problems reclaim our focus.

life is fascinating.

to help assuage my guilt, last night i dined on haute bbq at a manhattan restaurant knowing that a portion of the proceeds from my meal were going to be donated to the ongoing hurricane relief effort. (i'm a big fan of the win-win).

it's something.
