the jet lag rag

vegas and back in 24 hours...like a rock star (or something like that). and as with any exhaustive endeavor, the inevitable little annoyances that one must encounter seem to magnify with each passing hour. packing for starters--you'd think it would be easy to pack for one night, but short trips can often prove the most difficult. every occasion must be anticipated with the minimal of actual clothing items. of course, carry-on is the mandate, yet it's important not to look like you're dragging your entire wardrobe with you. and then there's the toiletries, thanks to the new regulations, everything must be condensed (in many cases, that means re-purchased) into tiny three-ounce bottles contained within the confines of a one-quart ziploc. fun.

then, there are the inevitable delays and cancellations at the airport. what is going on this winter in the new york area? are planes literally incapable of being on time anymore? i've been lucky enough to experience merely a handful of delays in all of the years that i've flown, and suddenly since january, five of my six flights have experienced some sort of delay or cancellation. i blame it on jetblue, not sure how, but i do.

and then on board, i have yet to determine whether window or aisle is the way to go. i used to believe the aisle was better suited for long flights due to the ease of access to the bathroom, yet i soon realized that you still had to contend with the others in your row climbing over you on their way to the lavatory, which is equally disruptive, so i've reverted back to the window. of course, this still doesn't help when a 300 pound man is blocking the way.

and then the food. wow, continental actually still serves meals on cross-country flights, but i really wish they wouldn't when the meal is a microwaved cheeseburger from 7-11 carefully disguised in a fancy package as a "beef and swiss sandwich" that absolutely reeks. of course, everyone around me chose to eat it. yummy.

and don't get me started on the bane of de-planing. is there anything more frustrating? oh but there is...when people choose not to move on the people-movers. this isn't the fucking jetsons. and lastly (although this will probably sound incredibly snotty, that is not my intention), i really wish my drivers wouldn't talk to me in the car. really, i appreciate the effort, i do, but i'm just not in the mood for small talk at 1:00 am. thanks.

..and think of me next time you fly. I go through this every single day at work.. PLUS, the fact that everyone thinks to belive that I know exactly what will happen to their connection flight in case of a delay. Honey I do not: I just serve coffee and tea.. So I'll be right back ;-)
